3ET: Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku wa Ketsui Shimashita

Wow. I found a picture of the two main characters that isn't totally creepy.

I was not looking forward to Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku wa Ketsui Shimashita (Yuushibu). In addition to being another long-named light novel adaptation, the basic plot about a hero and the daughter of a demon lord working at a department store sounded like a cheap knock-off of Hataraku Maou-sama, which was one of the better comedies I've seen in recent years. Not to mention that the "ecchi" tag on various fall charts made me ready for the very worst. I wanted to be wrong.

As for fearing for the worst in perverted fanservice for the sake of masturbatory fantasy, I was right. Any chance this show has to show off boobs, ass, or panties is taken with gusto. Female characters are introduced with the camera at chest level, complete with a jiggle before panning up to their face. We see old men molest a poor store clerk in detail before he buys a light bulb so he has to be treated like a customer in the store, and not like the sick fuck that he is. And the B-side of the third episode is little more than excuse for an extended tentacle rape scene, complete with clothes being torn and one of the characters getting covered with a sticky white fluid after the action is over. That's classy, Yuushibu. Real classy.

And this is the show showing restraint!

And yet, underneath that disgusting and creepy exterior, there are the basic ingredients of a decent plot. I know, I'm shocked too. The main character, Raul, spent years training to fight the Demon Lord, only to have the Demon Lord defeated right before he sets out on his grand adventure. He decides to give up on his dream of being a hero and take the only job he can get, which is at the magical department store. However, he sees his old party members who themselves have not given up on their dream, and seems to second-guess his decision to give up on his dream so easily. As for Fino, as the daughter of the Demon Lord, she is the basic fish out of water character. It's hard not to root for her as she works hard to fit in. There is even a clumsy attempt to show how she has to deal with racism. It's almost commendable that Yuushibu is trying to do this stuff in a filthy fanservice show.

In the end though, I have to fail this show. Yes, there is a possibly half-decent plot underneath all of the cleavage and panty shots, but I'm not sitting through all that crap to get to it. It'd be like someone saying "if you ignore the dollop of dog shit, the peach cobbler is decent." It goes without saying, that there shouldn't be dog shit on my peach cobbler to begin with.
